What I am Writing

Currently, I have several writing projects in the works. They are as follows:

1. A fantasy novel set in a world that I created a few years ago. I am trying out the Snowflake Method of novel development. At present I am working on creating characters.

2. An action oriented, pulp style science fiction story using the Lester Dent Plot formula. I am not sure about using such a straight forward formula, but I have problems plotting out stories and figured that I would give it a shot.

3. A rewrite on a short story about a faery who has killed her boyfriend. It is set in a modern urban milieu.

4. Sending out 2 stories to various markets and creating a spread sheet to track where they go.

5. Working on various poems, including an epic science fiction poem in rhyming iambic pentameter.

6. I am shelving a number of short story starts at the moment until I have more time to come back to them.

Exhaustion

There are different types of exhaustion. There is the type of exhaustion that results from physical exertion. It comes from walking for hours and hours. It comes from a clean exertion of muscles and feeling the strain of pushing beyond limits. It comes from labor-- the labor that leaves a change upon the environment.

There is the exhaustion that comes from mental effort. Reading, studying puzzling, and working through mental exercises and problems. Rational deduction. This form of exertion can be exhilarating or frustrating.

And then there is the exhaustion that comes from trying circumstances. It is emotional exhaustion. It never feels clean. It never feels as though it has anything to show for it beyond merely surviving it. It stains the soul like ink writing out the story of an episode or a life.

Sleep is a good thing.
